Does ADT Work with Google Home And Amazon Alexa?

You probably  know ADT has protected families for more than 150 years, but you may question if this trusted name in residential security can provide the modern convenience of voice activation. The answer is an absolute yes! ADT does work with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, and there’s quite a bit you can control. See what’s possible and find tips for integrating voice commands into your comprehensive home security system.

Here’s What Voice Activation Can Do In Your Richmond Home

Now that you’ve confirmed you can control your ADT home security with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, you’re probably thinking about what you might do. Here are some ideas:

  • Arm and disarm your system
  • Turn smart lights on or off
  • Activate connected smart locks
  • Manage thermostat settings

When you have your hands full with dinner, kids, or groceries, and need a quick way to brighten a light or adjust the temperature, just vocalize a command. It’s easy and lets you control your system without reaching for your phone or touching the touchscreen panel.

Use These Voice Commands To Control Your ADT Devices

A simple spoken directive is all it takes to control your connected ADT devices. One thing to note, if you give a command to a specific device, such as your front door lock or bedroom light, you’ll have to use the name you previously assigned to the device.

Here are a few commands you can use with Google Home:

  • Hey Google, arm my system stay.
  • Hey Google, arm my system away.
  • Hey Google, lock the (door name).
  • Hey Google, turn on the (light name).
  • Hey Google, turn the heat up by 5 degrees.

Amazon Alexa works about the same, but calls for slightly different phrasing. Here a few sample commands:

  • Alexa, arm ADT in away mode
  • Alexa, disarm ADT
  • Alexa, turn on the (light name).
  • Alexa, [[lock the (door name)]].
  • Alexa, set the (thermostat name) to 70 degrees.

You can also ask your smart speaker questions. You might want to know if your front door is locked or the current temperature setting. Just speak a command like, “Alexa, is the (door name) locked?” and you’ll hear an answer.

Are There Limits To What Voice Controls Can Do?

Voice integration comes with some restrictions. To illustrate, you can’t adjust settings in your ADT smartphone app by saying a command. You’ll also have to provide a PIN number when carrying out certain actions, such as unlocking a door or turning off your security system.

How To Establish Voice Activation In Your Richmond Home

Setting up voice activation only takes a few steps no matter what smart speaker you use. You’ll typically follow these instructions:

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa or Google Home app on your mobile device
  2. In Google, navigate to Devices or tap the Add (+) icon and look for Works with Google Home. inside the Alexa app, tap the menu, then select Skills & Games.
  3. Search for ADT
  4. Select ADT Smart Home (or ADT Pulse)
  5. Log in with your ADT credentials and follow the provided instructions
